LACON CHILDE ART DISPLAY AT There’s an unusual display of artwork in the front
window of the Market Hall, mounted there by
THE MARKET HALL
David Barker, Head of Art at Lacon Childe School,
with able assistance by students Evie and Oliver.
It’s the result of a project reflecting the work of Sir
Michael Craig-Martin, Dublin born, Yale educated
and resident in England since the 1960s.
Sir Michael’s recent work concentrates on the
everyday, using items that we see and probably
take for granted. The Lacon Childe project
reflected that and resulted in a wide selection of
items, all fashioned out of Monobloc card material
and painted in acrylics. The card in the window
invites you to identify the objects, which all have
a local connection. The editor only managed to
pick out the bowler hat that is the Hobsons
Brewery logo, which tells you a lot about his lack
of artistic knowledge.
The display will stay in the window for a few
weeks so that relatives of the students involved
can take a look and
the general public puzzle over the local
Lacon Childe’s Head of Art Mr Barker with connection. Please do not go into the Hall and
artists Evie and Oliver. touch them - they are delicately mounted.
